Bristol Community Association
The Bristol Community Association (BCA) is a not for profit, volunteer organization which is set up to improve various aspects of community life in the Municipality of Bristol.
The Community Association organizes events during the year and is currently working on improving some property it has purchased in the village of Norway Bay. The improvements so far include the clearing and leveling of part of the area and installing a winter ice skating rink. This was accomplished late last year (2000) and was used extensively by residents over the 2000-2001 winter season.
Additional plans are to include the paving of the rink area so it can be used for skate boarding during the summer, and developing other parts of the lots into a public park area which may be used by all residents.
During any year, the BCA typically organizes a winter carnival (February) and a harvest supper (October) as well as other events from time to time. Last year extremely popular event was organized at the farm of Don McCredie during the Pontiac Wagon Train Days. A Wagon Train meal was served and an evening of music and entertainment was enjoyed by several hundred people, who could also visit and chat with participants of the wagon train, see the horses and take part in various games and pony rides. A similar event will be held this year in late July.
Watch for additional announcements.
Events such as these, and the proceeds from the bar at the Community Centre (which may be reserved for events by calling the Secretary at the Town Hall, at 819-647-5555), help finance the community improvements sponsored by the BCA.
As a community organization the BCA executive is always pleased to welcome volunteers to help in various events. Contact any of the executive members noted below. The BCA acknowledges the very close cooperation of the Mayor and Councillors of the Municipality for their assistance in many ways in helping organize events and their participation with personal help and additional financing. This close cooperation makes Bristol a caring and interesting community in which to live.
